Description

Head of a leopard.

The abstracted head is in immaculate condition and has an even, well-maintained patina, suggesting it was part of a private altar that received constant care.

The teeth, whiskers and protruding tongue are strikingly stylised. So too are the voluminous ears, which, like the enormous eyes, the humanised nose and the position on a neck, are somewhat reminiscent of a human.

The head is decorated all around. A highly expressive homage to the leopard, which was kept tamed at court and in wealthy households.
