God is Not an American

Detroit poet and author, Jessica Care Moore, brings her exciting, provocative and focused poetry performance to Berlin by invitation of Galerie Peter Herrmann and produced by Sadiq Bey.

Jessica Care Moore is the CEO of Moore Black Press, Executive Producer of Black WOMEN Rock!,  and founder of the literacy-driven,  Jess Care Moore Foundation.  An internationally renowned poet, playwright, performance artist and producer,  she is the 2013 Alain Locke Award Recipient from the DIA. moore is the author of The Words Don't Fit in My Mouth, The Alphabet Verses The Ghetto, God is Not an American, and a forthcoming book of poetry, Sunlight Through Bullet Holes, and a  memoir, Love is Not The Enemy. She has performed her poems and solo theater shows all over the United States, in South Africa, and across Europe. 

From her Broadway performances at  Carnegie Hall,  or Harlem's Apollo Theater, London's Institute of Contemporary Arts, to New York's Jazz at  Lincoln Center, moore believes poems belong everywhere and to everyone.  

She is well known for her history making, record breaking appearances on "It's Showtime At the Apollo,"  and is the youngest living Apollo Legend. She is recording her first jazz project,  Black Tea: The Legend of Jessi James, which features Blue Note Recording artist, Jose James and the talented young Detroit based pianist Jon Dixon.
Her multi media show, God is Not an American was produced by The Apollo Theater and Time Warner's NYC Parks Summer Concert Series.  She was the Host, Writer and Co-Executive Producer of poetry driven television show, Spoken, on The Black Family Channel, Directed and Executive Produced by Robert Townsend. She is a five-time Showtime at the Apollo winner; has featured on hip-hop mega-star, Nas' "Nastradamus" album and  was a returning star of Russell Simmon's HBO Series, Def Poetry Jam

She lives in downtown Detroit, where she is a proud to be raising her 6-year old visual artist, baseball loving, hockey playing son King.
