Group of Four Figures
Growing of the King
Tupuri, Cameroon/Chad
Bronzes with TL-Expertise
74/76/131/152/ cm
Beginning of 19th. Century
The four statues portray as a serie the childhood of a king. Research and thermoluminescence analyses have established their age at the beginning of the 19th Century. Historically seen, they are striking pieces, as in the Tupuri area, Chad/Cameroon, neither old nor newer bronzes are known otherwise.
These objects could be taken to be the predecessors of a style, which is still followed in the Cameroon grassfields today. Motive, ornamentation, technique and the general approach are a clear indication of cultural exchange between these two regions.
